The states where Allstate underwrites lower average quotes than Geico are Hawaii, Nebraska, New Mexico, Rhode Island, and Wyoming. Geico provides significantly cheaper rates in other regions, sometimes saving drivers as much as $2,000 annually.

If you plan on adding any teenagers to your policy, Geico typically underwrites lower overall rates for young or new drivers than Allstate.

However, if you are a mature driver who does not need to include any younger people on your policy, Allstate provides older adults with very competitive rates.

What coverage options are available with Allstate vs. Geico?

Allstate and Geico offer countless coverage options that vary slightly by company. However, Geico provides more specific options for active military personnel than Allstate.

To help you choose between the two insurance companies, determine the types and levels of coverage you require, especially if you are a retired veteran.

You can purchase all of the basic car insurance coverages from both companies. Each also sells insurance for traveling to Mexico, personal umbrella policies, and classic car insurance coverage.

Allstate’s accident forgiveness options may suit you better if you are considered a higher-risk driver.

You can purchase this coverage from Geico or earn it for free after five years of filing no claims with the company. However, Allstate rewards drivers with a diminishing collision deductible for signing up. Each year you drive without an accident, the company takes $100 off your deductible, up to $500. (For more information, read our “How to Get a No-Claims Auto Insurance Discount“).

Allstate also sells custom equipment coverages not available through Geico. The company even provides GAP insurance for folks who lease or finance their vehicle, while Geico does not.

Yet,  if you are active in the military, know that only Geico offers Storage Protection Plans if your duties require you to store your vehicle for 30 days or more.

On the other hand, Allstate only allows customers to pause or reduce coverage levels for vehicle storage on a case-by-case basis.

Geico additionally helps military members secure 12-month overseas auto policies providing you with all documents required to register your vehicle. Plus, marine insurance is also available if you are shipping your vehicle. Geico has overseas offices in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

What military or veteran discounts do Allstate and Geico offer?

Both Allstate and Geico offer many basic car insurance discounts that civilian drivers are also eligible to earn, including safe driver, multi-vehicle, and claim-free rate reductions.

But when it comes to getting good deals on auto insurance for veterans and military persons, Geico comes out on top compared to Allstate.

Some sources suggest Allstate provides a considerable military discount taking up to 25% off your entire policy. However, the rate reduction appears only available for military drivers and their families in Louisiana.

Yet, Geico provides a 15% military discount for Army Reserve and National Guard members in almost every state. Plus, Geico gives the same rate reduction to veterans, which is something Allstate does not do.

On top of the initial discount of 15%, Geico offers up to 25% off car insurance rates with an emergency deployment discount. Allstate does not offer a garaging or storing discount to customers. This savings opportunity has limitations, but eligible military folks who are deployed to an imminent danger pay area or maintain their cars according to an approved storage protection plan may qualify.
