If you have served your country through some branch of the military, you will be glad to know discounts on auto insurance for veterans is just one little way to see rewards. The amount of the discounts available will vary depending on the carrier and possibly even the state where you live. It may never be enough to truly show the gratitude veterans deserve for the tasks they perform, but it is a small way to do something for veterans and their families.

Getting the Information You Need for Veterans’ Auto Insurance

You can at any point simply get your quote by entering just your zip code. Aside from that when you get further into the process of setting up your auto insurance policy for veterans coverage there will be other factors that help determine the cost.

Like civilians applying to get insurance quotes, the factors that impact the cost of premiums include:

  • Your current age and occupation
  • Your credit and driving history
  • The type of car you are driving and the condition it is in
  • Whether the car is financed or paid for
  • Where the car is kept such as a garage in a safe neighborhood or outside exposed to the elements and in a high crime area
  • How much the car is used and what it may be used for. A car used strictly for Sunday driving will cost less than a truck used daily for a long commute to work and then to haul things throughout the course of the day.
  • Whether or not there have been any lapses in your car insurance coverage, especially gaps that were over the course of 30 days or more

Deciding What’s Right for You and Your Family

Wanting veterans’ auto insurance for just you for a vehicle that is paid for and not of a great deal of value is much different than needing a policy that will cover even your teenage son driver and the new vehicle you just financed. Auto insurance can cover you for many different auto accident types. For that reason, it is a good idea to be aware of some of the options that are available to you when it comes to car insurance for veterans.

  • Liability – This is a popular choice for those who want affordable car insurance, have a car that is not financed, and have their own health insurance in place. Liability covers drivers in the event of an accident when they are deemed “at fault.” Though the driver’s own vehicle and medical expenses are not covered, the bodily injury and property damage to others will be up to a certain point. Aside from the state of New Hampshire, every other state has liability as a minimum insurance requirement to operate a vehicle on the road legally.
  • No Fault – When looking for veterans’ car insurance, no fault or Personal Injury Protection (PIP) insurance may be an option for you. In fact, you may reside in a state where having a no fault policy is the law. What this type of policy does is ensure that each driver’s own insurance will cover their policy holder in the event of an accident regardless of who the driver at fault is. This helps limit the need for lawsuits, legal expenses and ensures that all injured parties receive the medical treatment needed.
  • Collision – As the name implies, this is the basic coverage aside from going with just liability when it comes to veterans auto insurance. Collision insurance covers vehicles involved in a collision with one another. The mistake many drivers make is not realizing most collision policies do not cover collisions with other objects.
  • Comprehensive – This policy makes up for where collision is lacking. If you want auto insurance for veterans that covers you for things such as theft, vandalism, natural disasters, acts of God or other things other than collision, then comprehensive is the way to go.

The Final Word

Now that you have an idea of the types of insurance you could have, you will want to get quotes to make a decision. The first thing is also to be aware of what you may be required to have in cases of financing a car or by the regulations for the state in which you reside. (For more information, read our “How to Buy Car Insurance for Veterans“).

Even if you aren’t sure about these yet, simply fill in your zip code and let us provide you with the quotes for veterans’ auto insurance to help you decide. Knowing your options and working with an agent to make sure your needs are met are the best ways to get your veterans’ auto insurance policy all set up.
